How do I get rid of these annoying, small, moth like bugs flying around my house?
Question:I have these small moth like nets flying around my house. I'm not sure where the come from. I am a clean, sanitized person, very neat. I do have birds and I find them in the bird seed bag...but does anyone know what they are and know how to get rid of them..They also are seen near the glow of the television at night?
Answers:
They are baby fruit flys. The come in the bird seed. I'm not sure how to deal with them though. You might need to ask your local feed store.
i think they are the kind that grow inside some food products, notably and most especially: flour, dog food, rice...their favorite growing places. Are they small and white? kind of "off white"? if so...probably this is the problem and you need to throw out all flour based products as well as dog or cat food.(dry). and wash everything down with 1/2 bleach/ half water.to keep them away.
you said you find them in the bird seed bag...well throw out that bag and get a new bag of food. That food might be bad or molding and the moths are attracted to what's degrading in there.
They are meal bugs. To get rid of them, put a saucer of apple cider vinegar in each room, with a few drops of dishwashing liquid added.
to prevent them, store things like oatmeal, rice, and pet food out of the package in in airtight containers. i put oatmeal, rice, etc. in zippered plastic bags and put them in a canister. (i cut the cooking directions off the side of the box and stash it in the canister.) for pet food, you'll probably have to get one of those big containers from the pet store.
personally,I use a flamethrower , I got it at military surplus, does a very good job. just joking
They are also known as grain moths. Go to your hardware store and get the Pantry Pest Trap by Safer. They work great.
