Wall air conditioner vs window?
Question:We can't put air conditioners in our windows, building rules, written in the lease, etc. Do we have to buy an air conditioner that is specifically made for the wall sleeve or can we use the window air conditioner that we already have and just put it in the wall? The air conditioner will not stick out the end of it, but will be completely enclosed within the sleeve. thanks.

most modern air conditioners or older for that matter are made to go in a window or wall. you should have no problem.
Thats odd to me, not allowing them in a window but allowing you to cut a hole in an exterior load bearing wall.. I don't doubt you but something just isn't right about that hu?
our buliding has them in the wall which really sucks cause it i have to rearrange the furniture every summer to uncover it.. our landlord bought a regular window unit.. as long as it fits in the sleeves and there are no gaps i dont see why you couldnt... we also have it in out lease that we cant put in our windows but we did and the landlord came over and asked us about it... and we told he we have one unit in a 2 bedroom apartment with a infant daughter... we need it not to be so hot in here and she said she didnt have a problem but we should have asked first.. whatever.. right? so maybe ask the landlord why you cant have them in the windows!
if there is sleeve in the wall for an air conditioning unit you could buy one but they can be costly, plus they usually require a special receptacle to plug into and a heavy gauge electrical wire to accommodate the power they consume, but you may already have that. i did see at my local walmart they had a portable air conditioner that sits completely inside your house. it does have to be vented out a window though. the vent that goes outside looks like the flexible round duct that you vent a clothes dryer with. i would say that it would be a whole lot cheaper to get that than a unit that goes in a sleeve through an outside wall. i would check out websites of your local retailers to compare prices if you think you might be interested, but walmart is usually always cheapest.
