Tell me about those furniture rent to own stores? Rent a center? Are they worth it?
Question:im 22, just got my first condo, and i dont have alot of money for furniture, i hate not having furniture, all i have right now is a bed, just moved in too, so i need to buy furniture, but im still considered NEW credit, are Rent a Centers rent to own worth it? or will end up paying 2x what the furniture is worth??
Answers:
No rent to own. period.
Rethink what your trying to do.
Your just starting out so buy a FEW good items and go for the sparsely decorated look for a year. A good bed is its own reward, dont skimp on a healthy nights sleep.
Go to Consignment Shops for end tables, coffee tables etc.
Buy some do-it-yourself shelving at Home Depot for wall display items.
The first year in your first home doesnt have to be perfect.
Steer clear of them. They charge much more than the item would cost if you bought it. They have a good sales staff though and if you go in there they will probably rent you something before you can get out. Beware.
Be patient and you'll save money and be a smart consumer.
i personally wouldn't do it they charge you way more than what the furniture is worth. why don't you go online check out a few stores in your area and apply for credit . or check out flea markets or yard sales you don't have to get something great for your first purchase. save up your money. goodluck
NO! You end up paying ridiculous premiums when you buy from them. It's just a scam that appeals to people with bad credit. Stay away. It takes time to create a good credit rating. But the effects of paying for something you want to day are not going to help you more than waiting a couple of years.
It works for some people, but for others, it doesn't. You usually end up paying more than what the piece is worth. Try thrift stores or sales (estate/garage) to find furniture. Sometimes you can find almost new things for practically nothing. Also, look around at furniture stores and ask if they have any items that are discounted because of factory imperfections. Sometimes the problems are so unnoticeable and you still get a great discount.
The rental stores are set up to rip off the ignorant. Don't pay 3 times the price for crap furniture.
You know I always run into someone getting rid of furniture. Ask around, I'm sure you can score free stuff before tomorrows even over.
If not, then how about a used furniture store for stuff and howa bout just purchasing a nice couch at rooms to go on credit or something like that.. don't over due it ...
If you on a tight budget, don't do it...
Go to Wal-Mart (or wherever) on your next paycheck...
Three times as cheap, and you get merchandise that hasn't been rented out to 100 other people...
They'll ream you on the surcharges, and interest rate...they're the loan sharks of furniture and everthing else...
Never make payments on furniture, appliances, or electronics...
They're experts on hidden costs over time, and you'll pay them monthly payments, getting peed on the whole time, but you'll smile like it's raining...!
well i would say no its not worth it. unless you like paying a lot of money for convenience they will charge you nearly double of whatever the product is worth at retail. but if your short on cash you can always do that. but i wouldn't recommend it i would say wait it out and when you get your money up enough go out and buy it you will spend less money buying the same thing and paying full price so if you can wait i would. and the only good thing is that it will up your credit if you do deal w/ them but if you over do it then that's another bill and if you can't afford it then you will be losing on your credit score i would say steer clear of them places and if you do decide to check one out do not let them fill your head full of BS your in charge just be the boss and don't let them sucker you.
Don't go to rent to own centers as you will end up paying three times the cost of the item had you bought it someplace else.
If you are handy with a paintbrush I would go to second hand/thrift stores, they have lots of styles and some you don't even have to refinish... great prices too.. (cheap) lol.. check out the ads in your local papers for good deals on furniture and on line..you might even get great deals at yard/garage sales.. and don't forget to ask family and friends if they have anything they don't use anymore.. you never know!! Good Luck..
check out a freecycle ad in your area or craigslist-you can get a lot of good stuff on there for free. www.craigslist.org
