How much does it cost to zone and air conditioner?
Question:In the upstairs of our house there is the master and 2 secondard bedrooms and a huge bonus room. in the summer the bonus is very hot while the other rooms are cool. We were thinking about zoning the bonus room to its own, and the other bedrooms and the master on another. How much would this cost?

Most often in residential applications zoning is taken care of by separate units. There are VVT (Variable Volume Terminal) systems but they are expensive and work fair at best. Also they cannot cool one zone while the others want heat.
The cost of the systems would depend on square footage in each zone, access for equipment and ducting, electrical capacity of your house, etc. This is impossible to determine over the Internet. Most contractors give free estimates although you should beware of contractors who come in with very low bids because if you read their fine print they often will exclude hidden conditions which in the end you will end up paying a lot more money for.
you need to contact a few A/C companies in your area. ask them to come out and estimate the work based on your configuration (i.e. current system & ductwork).
