I keep whole cloves in my pantry - just spread a bit out along the shelf. Whole cloves are good for quite a few things. Just try chewing one the next time you have a tooth ache as well.as for ants.I know they work for other bugs..like those mealy things that come home in flour sometimes..worth a try...it's natural and inexpensive.
I don't know but I'm going to try it because I have the same problem you do and I have some cloves in the cupboard. Thanks for the idea.
Yes. I think they hump their selves to death....couldn't resist.
I have heard peppermint leaves work well too. This could be cheaper because you can buy a peppermint plant and harvest some leaves for free every now and then. Terrokill ant poison is the best solution though, and even that takes a couple weeks.
Want to know what all that expensive ant dope has in it? Diatomaceous earth. Save money by buying the real thing from a plant nursery for $6.00 a bag. It looks like baby powder but its the skeletons of tiny sea creatures (diatoms). It scratches the ants (and other insects) exoskeletons and they cant survive the scratches.
It works. If you don't believe me read the label of the expensive stuff.
Don't know about this one, however try using very inexpensive baby/talcum powder. Just lay a small trail of powder and they will not cross it! If you are on their 'track' it will be hard to get rid of them. They often disappear when it rains.
There are not any preventative products on the market that a homeowner can buy that are effective. As far as things you can do,Eliminate conducive conditions,Make sure there is no wood-soil contact, trees touching the home, moisture conditions in the home or against it,rotten wood is replaced and sealed, mulch is not piled against the house, and firewood is stored away from the home. The only products that will work are done by a professional,do not take shortcuts in protecting your home.Call a Pest Control Professional and have a proper preventative treatment performed.Generally the best ant treatments are a bait,When you use "bug spray"it just kills the visible ants and disrupts the pheromone trail which causes them to scatter and spread out resulting in a larger infestation.
