Do the new refrigerators need air space around them for ventilation? The older ones needed 2" on top/sides.

Question:This is NOT a built in fridge.just a regular 'slide in' kind. I do not know if I should allow more area around the one I buy. I'd like to get a larger one.but need to know if that will work if it is only 1/4 - 1/2" from the sides of the cabinets. Also, the top would be 1/4" from cabinets. Thanks!!

Answers:
2 inches is best

If you stay with the 2" all around, you won't go wrong. When you're out shopping for the new refrigerator, ask the saleperson what the clearance has to be around the unit that you are interested in buying, to have peace of mind. If you don't think the salesperson you are working with is giving you the answer you need, ask for a manger.
If it will fit in the hole it is fine.as long as your cabinetry is not airtight(which it is most certainly not)the fridge will be fine.
