sounds like it is getting to much sun, if it gets to much sun all kinds of different algae will grow. It you go to your local pet store they sell different types of algae killer and try to find some how to shade your pond. all so they sell pellets and cubes of barely that help get rid of algae
ach NO bleach it kills some helpful nutrients in the water if you have live fish or plants that you wish to live if not bleach will do the trick and you wont have to figure out how to shade it but just make sure there is nothing alive that you want to live my friend.
you could also look at live fish such as plecos and koi and they will help maintain algea control but you need to keep up after them making sure the water is chemically balanced for them.
another thing is get the water flowing! stagnet water attract bugs such as mosquitoes and algea, if the water starts moving it creates a harder time for those type things to breed in your pond
OKEY DOKEY
You can buy special bleaches for ponds. Check local Hardware stores or maybe Wal-mart.
Try and get rid of all of the weed this will help it to stop spreeding as quickly but im not sure how to get rid of it altogether sorry.
its called pollution in the pond thsi pollution can cause it to turn green it has a name but i forgot the name for it just clean out the trash and stuff.

If you pond is new and it is green then it is not a bad thing. You pond must cycle. If it is older you do not have enough plant life in your pond, which will use up to oxygen that the blanket weed survives off of. Also, add into your pond goldfish, koi etc... which will eat the blanket weed or more plecos which will eat the blanket weed also. There are algae killers that you can get from your local pet store or pond supply store that are safe for fish, but will kill all of your plants including the ones you want.
You didn't say if there were fish in the pond, which would make it tougher as the things that will kill the growth will also kill the fish. Assuming you do not have fish, copper sulfate (alson known as bluestone) will take care of the algae and moss. Contact aquatic herbicides such as Sonar or Weedtrine will kill the pondweed. If you're looking to go with a more environmental solution, you can get fish that will help keep your pond clean, such as grass carp. But some fish are banned in some states, so you'd just have to check it out.
I think you need some pond plants, these will keep the water clean. this website gives you a hint.gl
Algae is the first thing to develop in the early spring and you will always have some time of algae growth. But you will need to manually control this. We use a toilet brush to reach in and pull out, but it's a continual effort.
Adding beneficial bacteria with plants that compete with the algae and fish will help tremendously. Some plants are more invasive than others, and keeping plants in pots in the bottom of your pond wil make it easier to clean the pond in fall/winter.
Do not add algae killer - you will also kill the good bacteria and reverse any good progress your pond has made. Your filter system needs to be able to handle the size of your pond - if your aeration system is too small, you'll never get a handle on the algae.
A water garden is a long-term committment. Reexamine your fountain/filter system, plant population and water Ph so establish a good balance. Seek out a nursery in your area that speciliazes in water gardens (not the big box stores, they won't have enough personal knowledge.)
