Can we use the first year ruhbarb?

Question:I planted the ruhbarb this year but my wife thinks that we shounted use the fruit this year

Answers:
don't forget the leaves are poison!

You probably don't have enough to do anything with. If you REALLY want to eat some, go ahead, but don't pick more than 1/2. Nothing wrong with it, but the plant needs to get fully established before you go eating tons. By the way, mine is 70 years old, and doing great!
it is ok to use it.it won't be any different next year, except more of it.
For the sake of the plant you should leave it be.
