Because when dandelions change their form to the white fluffy things they spread like wildflower all over the place becoming a nuisance, unlike daisies.

I like dandelions and I don't consider them weeds when I find them in a flower box.

Dandelions are non-native plants in north america. They were brought over from europe, and planted for their food value. The young greens are actually quite nice in salads.
