Help Please!! Just had my foundation repaired and back fill is complete, nothing but dirt is around house and?
Question:no grass about 20 ft out around house and door entry ways. I am having a big July 4th BBQ about 100 people. I was wondering does anyone have any ideas to make this dirt or mud (hopefully not) more presentable or more stable to walk on? I was thinking about putting those big tarps over it. I have not planted grass seed as its not the right time of the year. They didnt level it as well as I thought they would and from the rain it is clotted. Should I have the farmer up the road bring his tractor down and try smoothing it out and forget the tarp idea. Just need some ideas as the party is July 7th. I don't want any drinkers and smokers to trip or flick a cigarette on the tarps. I'm at a loss and had to go by the contractors schedule. By the way. They backfilled the dirt while it was raining so it is real clumpy. Help please.

Definitely have the farmer come... if it's not flattened out now, it will never be flat... grass will grow on it and your yard will be a complete mess.
It's terrible that you are having a party while your yard is such a disaster... it sounds like a tarp would be a bigger pain than it would be helpful... Maybe you can get some of those outdoor carpets. They have them all over now and usually run relatively low in price. That would look nice and keep peop;e out of the dirt.
Besides that, you can put grass seed down at anytime, as long as you throw hay on top of it. That way, the seeds don't dry out.
Good luck.
Level the ground and plant sod. Instant lawn.
For a temporary fix, you could have a load of pine straw brought in to cover the ground and keep dirt and mud off feet and therefore out of your house. To deal with the potential fire hazard, hose it down before your guests arrive. The straw will hold the water and make it less flammable. Relatively easy clean up too, pine straw is light weight. You're brave to go ahead with your plans!
