PLEASE HELP! Garden and Home problem!?
Question:Okay, I am going to cheat a little and have a couple of problems, firstly, If I was to redectorate my daughters bedroom which is like a powder blue, to pink, its quite a light pink, would I need to paint the walls white first? Then add the pink?
AND...
My garden needs sorting desperately, only problem I want to do a patio, what is the quickest, cheapest and easiest way to do this, need it asap, AND the ground in which I need to dig and turn has some form of concrete under it and I cannot dig any deeper than 3 inches. Can I make a patio without turning the ground and keeping the weeds and things there?
Sorry I am desperate, this all needs to be done asap as a suprise!! Ive got a week!!
Answers:
OK, Paint white primer in the bedroom first, then paint your colour - it may still need a couple of coats to get a nice finish.
Re: your patio, how about using pea gravel on the area after you've cleared the weeds and levelled the space. Use wooden forms to the size you want the patio to be. Then use a weed killer on it, add the gravel, perhaps with a few paving stones scattered. And some large terracotta plant containers with red geraniums and ferns to define the area. A nice patio table and a couple iron chairs and maybe a market umbrella with stand, and you're good to go!
Just a couple suggestions!!
Good luck! :-D
You're "desparate"? What an easy life you have.
i would just paint the room without white cos you'll still have to paint two coats of pink anyway, white or not.
garden, ooh, dunno by my dad laid our patio and used sand as a base, and kept putting a bit more here and there to get it flat, then he mixed some cement in and left it. it set over night because of the dew.
however i saw some decking tiles at either homebase or B&Q. like tiles only, well, decking. they might be faster but the ground with still have to be level but easier cos you don't have to use cement, only sand. get sharp sand from Jewsons.
hope this helps!
2 coats of pink will do the trick
cheapest way to do the patio is do it yourself nip down to your local DIY store they have all you need.you can lay on concrete but make sure you are above the damp course on your house or damp will get in.
Just painted my son's room with light grey. I used Dulux paint and it covered a deep yellow with one coat - no probs - (and it was just the normal stuff - not the one coat variety) I was delighted! If you use good quality paint, covering powder blue shouldn't be a problem. In the past we've managed to get away with just one coat of Homebase paint too!
Patio - our ground was just rubble - so the patio slabs were laid on blobs of concrete in each corner - could level whilst wet and set a treat. 3 years later, no probs! The bloke that did our patio didn't leave gaps between the slabs. (Don't know if that helps prevent movement or not?)
Hope this helps!
for the painting i would use a one coat paint you can buy this from any diy store its called once the beauty with this you only need one coat so no need for a primer for the garden i would use some weed killer for the weeds and hire a mini rotovator as you will need to turn the soil
