Garbage Disposal Myth?

Question:Is it true that when you run your garbage disposal, you can only run cold water while it is running (as opposed to hot). My mom drilled it into my head as a kid and now I tell my husband the same thing.

Answers:
Yes, you are only supposed to run cold water into the disposal while it's running.

Hot water will destroy the ball bearings and seals in the disposal, and you will have to replace the disposer more often.

Also, you want to use cold water in order to solidify grease so that the disposer blades can easily chop it up, and flush it down the drain.

.

I run hot water through so that the grease will go down the drain.
no. warm water is better because it liquifies the grease and oil from the dishes.

If your a renter be sure to only use cold water as it may cost you the tenant for the replacement bill.
not true, she probably didn't want you to waste the warm water just for the garbage disposal
I guess there are pros and cons either way, but I don't think it is important enough to nag your husband about it.
Running cold water will solidify any grease and make it go down the drain in bits so that it doesn't clog the pipes.
