I have an injured mouse in a trap. What should I do?
Question:This is horrible, so faint of heart, please stay away. The mouse is caught in a household trap supposed to provide a quick death (called 'a better mousetrap'). The problem is that it didn't get a chance to stick the whole head in there before it snapped - so the mouse didn't die and has an injured face. It's currently in a tupperware container. It's a wild mouse, not a pet (a pest, in fact). Can I kill it quickly and (relatively) humanely? How? I don't know anybody with a snake (a preferred solution). Advice?
Answers:
Just put it outside and let nature take it's course. A cat will probably find it and take care of it for you. Sorry..
I take them to the toilet and give them a "burial at sea" so to speak. It seems like a quick and humane way to end the problem.
Put him out of his misery!
I'm sorry..this has happened to me too on a glue trap. I didn't know what to do so I thew it in with the garbage that was being burnt. I was around 10 years old and it bothers me to this day. I haven't used a kill type trap since.
Hopefully you can find someone with a snake or something...or just put him out of misery or find someone that can.
Good luck to you.
I would take him away from your home, far enough so he cant come back and set him free, I think he has endured enough pain and probably learned his lesson not to come back into a house...
You're going to have to kill him - he'll die regardless. Use a cotton ball with nail-polish remover. It'll put him to sleep first. Hold it over the nose for about 3-minutes or so and he'll die in his sleep.
