How do i grow a grape vine?

Question:in Wisconsin

Answers:
It depends on what you are growing the vine for!! If you just want a vine to grow over a trellis, you should be able to find a vine that will suit your purpose.

However, if you are looking for a vine that will produce sweet grapes for eating or for making wine, that will be MUCH harder in Wisconsin.

First, some varieties may not tolerate the winter in Wisconsin. Then, It may not get HOT enough, LONG enough where you live to produce sweet grapes.

I suggest that you contact your Agriculture Extension for your County. They can tell you what grapes will do well in your area!!

Good Luck!!

It's easy out here in california, just shove the roots into some dirt. But you living back in Wisconsin you might want to take a little more care about when and where to plant. I've always found it best to start them in the ground in the spring and you might want to place them in a shelterd area from cold and wind. Make sure you protect them from the winter snow with blankets and straw/mulch around the base. Once established, prune before they go dormant in the fall.
