Why are my flowers dying?

Question:i planted vinca's a couple months ago, and so many of them have started dying. I water them daily, and fertilize them. I live in louisiana where it is pretty hot. What am I doing wrong?

Answers:
There are 2 types of Vinca plants available. Full sun and partial sun. Your plants may be getting too much sun or not enough depending on the plants requirements. It's very important to check the plants growing requirements before you plant them to make sure the conditions are right. It sounds like you have the partial sun vinca's which will often die in very hot conditions. They do well in areas that get morning and evening sun but prefer shade in the mid-day when it's very hot.

Where did you plant them? Usually when you buy flowers it will tell you on the package weather they need direct or indirect sunlight. Chances are you planted them in too much sun, and they will get sun burned and start to die. Believe it or not plants will get sun burned. Another thing you could be doing is watering them too much. Sometimes plants will die from too much water. I wouldn't water them everyday. Louisiana is hot, but you have to remember it's also very humid, and the humidity will help them, without over watering them. And you also need to make sure they have enough space in between them. If you don't then there roots will all start to grow together and become root bound. Hopefully this helps you out. Good Luck!
you can always over water, some plants will die from too much watering it will rot the roots. also stem rot and foliar die backs can occur. you can look at www.gardenguides.com/plants and maybe find more information to help you.
It sounds like your doing all you have to, however too much of a good thing is not good. Meaning don't water and or fertilize too much, generally they are fertilized when you get them so a little fertilizer when you plant them and they should be good for about a month as far as fertilizer. You also don't want to overwater them, planted in the ground they may only need watering two or three times a week. Feel the soil to see if you feel it moist first, before watering. I hope this helps.
