For removing slippery green algae growth from brick patios & steps, is it better to use vinegar or bleach?
Question:And which------if either-------is less damaging to surrounding plant growth? Would a coating of fine sand spread over bricks serve to erode away the algae growth?
Answers:
vinegar please..this will kill the plants you pour it on, heat it up first, but it will not harm the animals or other plants as long as you do not drip it on the plants. NEVER pour bleach outside . The sand may help with the traction, although I would try your local DIY store and see what they have in the fountain section for algae killers.
I wouldent use either, Just buy a very course scrub brush and if you have a power washer use that also. But if you have to use vinegar or bleach use vinegar.
I agree. Never pour bleach out on teh ground, and those always end up in the aquifers that provide us with water.
And choose organic, always!
Not Bleach. I use vinegar on my stone walkway to kill weeds and encourage moss growth. (I wash my hardwood floors with a little vinegar in the water and dump that on the walk way also.) I have a fish pond and know a little about algae control and would not use any of that type of product outside of the contained pond.
