Get a mongoose
dry lime powder. good for lawns and to keep snakes away. should be about to get it at home depot walmart doesnt carry it.
Encircle your yard with hemp rope.
I lived in La. by the water for years,we put moth balls under our house.Then my Grandmaw told me to get a black rope and lay it in the yard,something kept them away.Maybe like they say,if you look for them you will find them?
If you are trying to keep them out of your whole yard, keep your shrubbery trimmed, don't leave brush or trash piles around, contain your compost and don't keep piles of rocks or logs. Keep your firewood off the ground.
I can tell you how to make them go away humanely.
We had a rat snake that liked to sun on our front porch. Scared the living heck out of me. I called our county extension agent and he said that If I sprinkled cayenne pepper around the area the snake frequented, it would move on.
I did and the snake left.
P.S. If you are having a particular problem, call your county extension agent or animal control. They often have good ideas about stuff like this.
