Some roses are designed especially for pots and these should do well in pots as long as they are watered. Other roses can be grown in pots and usually rose catalogues will tell you tell you which will manage in pots.

If planting a rose in a pot the pot should be as large as possible and you should water the roses well and not let the soil dry out. Also the roses will need feeding as the nutrients will go out of the soil eventually - there are specific rose feeds available.
