Bees in my garden?

Question:i noticed an increase of bees in my garden. so i tryed to locate the nest. ive located it, and its pretty small. must only be about 100 bees or so in it.. now ive bin pretty close to the nest, and some might call me crazy even had it in my hands. i noticed the bees dont seem to be aggresive at all... which i thought they would be since i did have the nest in my hands. now ive read someonewhere that certain bees dont have stingers.. is this true, and how wud i identify them. and why wernt the bees aggresive towards me when i was so near the nest.. any ideas, or how i could get more info on this

Answers:
Bees are generally NOT aggressive - unless you're talking about the african "killer" bees.

Some of the larger wasps are aggressive. Most of the small wasps are necter feeders, and are not interested in people one way or the other.

Yellow Jackets are commonly mistaken or "bees" because they are yellow and black - but they are not fuzzy. They get downright mean toward the end of summer. They also tend to nest in the ground.

An interesting note on the "bumblebees", or carpenter bees - the big, fat fuzzy black and white ones - usually nest in very small groups, often chewing small round holes in the wood of your porch to nest: There is usually a "patrol" bee near the nest, and sometimes they will weave back and forth in front of you, and sometimes even "bonk" themselves off your head or shoulder...those are the boy bees - and they have NO stingers. It's entirely a bluff. The females DO have stingers - but they are single-minded workers, gathering pollen, and don't do any sentry duty, and are not aggressive. Always makes me laugh that the ones playing "soldier" were not given any swords!!

not all bees have stingers. some bees arent aggresive. Or maybe they are regullar bees and they might not have felt like they were trying to harmed like most bees do. If u need any more advice or just want to talk email me at : smileymiley600@yahoo.com
BYE!
Lots of people call yellow jackets, bees. They nest in the
ground. Hornets are also called bees and there nests are
most always in trees and they are hornets. Bad news!
Then there are wasps. Some people call them bees. They
are wasps. A hundred wasps is a big nest. They are most
aggressive when there are grubs in the nest. There a reddish
brown color. Count yourself lucky. They will target the eyes.
Bees live in hives, a sheltered place to store honey. Bumble
bees are big and fuzzy and live under wood piles. I would
have destroyed the wasps nest long before now.
Be careful.
Only thing I would add is don't kill them and let them do their job of pollinating your plants. Bee populations are down as much as 90 % across the country.
