Question:Now flowers are out ..lots of additional groth with no signs of bud. Should I cut this growth away to encourage the existing buds. Or leave to flurish. Will they bare flowers. Cheers
Answers:
It completely depends on the clematis on when and how to prune. Here are a couple of sites that may help you.

There are several types of Clematis and the different varieties need different pruning.
Identify which sort your is - some you cut back hard- then come back to the site or check it out in a gardening book, or ask at a local Nursery.
I had a Clematis at my last house, just put it in the soil and left it. Within 12 months it had entwined with next doors Leylandii and we both had a Clemandii. The important thing to rembember when planting Clematis is to cover the roots with a roof slate or something similar, its an old gardeners trick"cover the root and the buds will reach the sky". The root needs to be kept cool.
Hope this helps
Depends on the clematis. Check out www.silverstarvinery.com. to see if you can identify yours. Debbie has beautiful clems and she has a page about the care of the clems by whatever group it falls in.
Cut them back. When they are done blooming and the leaves turn brown, I trim them back to about 8 inches, otherwise I wait and cut them back in the fall.
Prune after flowering, some varieties are best left unpruned to do their own thing, a general rule is when they flower: 'before June, don't prune'.
Other than that, plant them 10cm or so deeper than the top of the rootball to prevent clematis rot and keep their roots cool.
