Training Moon Flowers?

Question:How do I train my moon flowers to grow on a up on a string or rope?

Answers:
Mine is growing up my iron trellis and has reached the roof of my porch already. Just check it daily and buy some bamboo sticks if you do not have a trellis. Make sure it has enough water but not too much. Last year, I used twine attached to a small trellis to train mine and this worked well. They are very capable of training themselves if they have something near them to cling to.

Since you want them to grow up a string, I suggest the type of string used for tying newspapers. It works great. I call it twine. Just be sure to nail the twine as high as you want the plant to grow. Make several rows of the twine and they will look great.

You have just mentioned my favorite summer vine. Moonflowers smell heavenly. I like to watch them open up right before my eyes at twilight.

It is a twining vine with an amazing growth rate given sun, water, and fertilizer in drained organic soil. Give it a rough cellulose rope and it should be very happy. Polypropylene, nylon, and polyester are too slippery for a steep rise.
All I did with mine was stick a few bamboo skewers next to them and they started to twine around them on their own. After that I put a trellis in for them to climb, removed the skewers and stuck the vines on the trellis. They are climbing and twining like crazy now. So, I think all you have to do is give them something to climb and they will work it out...
