Can I extend the handle of a spigot ?

Question:Because of a back injury, I can no longer bend over to turn my outdoor spigot on/off. It is located at the bottom of my house right next to the deck. Is there a way to extend the handle up about 5 feet so that I can turn my water on/off from the deck ?

Answers:
I cant think of any devices of the top of my head, but a plumber would be able to do that. What they would do is cut off the spigot, add an L followed upwards with 5' of pipe, another L, then the spigot. Also some brackets to mount it to the side of the house so it dosent vibrate.

You can do it yourself with pvc pipe, or you can attach a 5 ft piece of hose to it with a ball valve on the end. Just put the short hose on and place it at a height that is comfortable for you. Shut the ball valve off and leave the spigot open. The ball valve will then serve as an easy to reach spigot.
