You have to attract them to your yard.

Start off by hanging at least two humming bird feeders in your yard, preferably on opposite sides of the house so they can not be seen from one another as male hummers are territorial in the extreme. Fill them with a solution of sugar water (1 part white table sugar to 4 parts water) without adding any colorant as it's not needed. Make sure you clean these out once per week no matter how much is left in them as they can grow a mold that's fatal to hummers.

For butterflies you can use a mash of banana, compost (or chicken/steer manure), and water mixed into a wet mushy goo. Put this out on a fence post downwind of the house but still fairly close to the house. Change this once per week and make sure it stays moist at all times, preferably with some of the liquid still in the bottom of the wide, shallow, open container like a pie plate. This is nectar of the gods to butterflies and any you have in your area will soon flock all over this food.

Once they are attracted to your yard the rest is up to them.
