What do you feed budleija to give it a boost?
Question:We have a budleija that is looking a bit sad and want to give it a boost with a plant food before it flowers and would like to know what would bring the best results.
Thankyou.
Answers:
Growmore and rose food e.c.t are slow release fertilisers so using these or similar will not help right now, they should be used in the spring . You should give your buddleia a liquid feed just now to help the flowers (a quick fix) you can use any general liquid fertiliser. In autumn cut the buddlea back by half to stop wind damage over winter and in spring cut down to one third give a feed of growmore or rose fertiliser and then again in early summer.
Rose fertilizer for this year, then cut it back fairly severly after it has flowered so next years flowers will be on new growth.
Good luck!
Growmore is good, as the flowers die off keep cutting them off and it will flower all summer.
Every Spring, I scatter Growmore pellets all over my garden - the borders and the grass - it looks like a jungle out there. Its a slow-acting fertiliser so might be an idea for next year to give your garden a good start. I also use the pellets in my window boxes and hanging baskets. They are some of the cheapest fertilisers on the market.
For a quick boost, use a liquid fertilizer which you can water in around the roots of the bush. Ask at your garden centre or DIY store/Wilkinsons/Woolworths.
I prune mine hard, in March
Phostrogen is a good feed - it's reliable, easy to use and not too expensive. Just add a heaped teaspoonful of the powder to your watering can and water the roots and the leaves, twice in the first week, to give a boost, then once a week after that.
I cut my budleija back hard in the autumn and it grows back full and strong each year.
Buddleja is a large genus with 100 species. It includes evergreens, semi evergreens and deciduous shrubs climbers trees and hebaceous perennials. They come from a wide variety of habitats from rocky to riverside. Ideally you need to know which species and where it comes from. Then you'll know what it likes best. Generally water freely when growing, little in winter.Phostrogen is a good feed and can be used as a foliar feed also. Cut back in the autumn if it is getting leggy.
Tomato feed is the best and once it flowers keep giving it the feed until the last flower falls.
the ultimate food for absolutely any plant or flower is Miracle grow,(not for veg )you truly won,t believe the size of the flowers when they bloom, and they are so healthy,i,ve been feeding my garden miracle grow for a few years now, every where i,ve lived i,ve had the whole neighbourhood ask me what i do,just follow the instructions and you can,t go wrong every 2wks,from april to sept, you can see the difference after just 1 day, believe me.the powder is the best, the advert on the tv is spot on.lots of people think that the soil, without feeding it is enough,we eat on a regular basis, plant life is the same,no soil can keep a whole garden fed for the duration of the plant or tree,s life, please try it,you,ll see it with your own eyes.
