If your elderly would you prefer?

Question:Hey, im starting a little spare time garden maintenance work, eg lawn mowing, hedge trimming stuff like that, and the question is do you think an elderly person would prefer someone how just puts up a little written ad in a shop up or someone, with a website, bussiness cards, and a more detailed ad? Thanks

Answers:
They would PREFER someone who shows up at their door, looks at the yard and the hedges, details exactly what it is that he is willing to do, for what kind of money, and then DOES IT conscientiously and on time!

i guess richer older people would prefer web addys etc. so go for the money hahaha
Ad in the local free newspaper!
think the card in the local shop is best bet
Word of mouth is the best way forward.
Business cards sound good, and a written ad. Maybe you could distribute some leaflets or something. Whilst some elderly people use the internet the majority don't so the cost of a website may be more than the benefit you would gain from it. Good luck.
By now any elderly will relay on the recommendation first with such a lot of trouble around. At my work place in the shop all that grandmothers are very well informed. web site... how many of the elderly people have a chance to get there?
shove cards through doors that way if they dont want it they pass it on
That's a good question. The elderly really don't care for all the bells and whistles. They want an honest fair price for the work.
The website and business cards may raise your overhead and you may need to charge more.
Business cards and fliers are the best for this, maybe include some references to make it easier for them to check you out.
cant you do all available options? amazingly , the older people these days are not daft. they can read. they can use computers and they tell you exactly what they need doing.
i think adverts in newspapers or shop windows would be the preferred option for elderly people as most are un-able to obtain access to or utilise the internet
If you want to 'work for the elderly' in their 'garden maintenance' then you should print up 'flyers' and have a business card and put the card 'inside' the flyer and put a flyer on EVERY DOOR you can ... and if you can, get 'good references' from people who know you and the work you want to do ... because the elderly aren't 'stupid' but many are not 'computer savvy' ... and they won't look at an 'ad' in a store or on a bulletin board, but they will read a 'flyer' left in their door.
I'm also going to start my own business in this area.
I'm going to knock up some coloured leaflets and distribute them in the 'better' areas in the town i live - the better well off usually have the money to spare to spend on this type of thing (at least that's what i'm hoping!)

good luck !.oh, if you're free the next couple of months - i could have a project that might need some help...ho-ho!
In general I'd say older people prefer clear, bold type, an honest explanation of prices and, of course, personal recommendations from friends and family. I wouldn't bother wasting money on fancy (confusing?) graphics or websites. Another tip, don't forget the importance of taking time with older customers and the importance of manners. My Mum is constantly frustrated by younger people who speak too fast, don't meet their appointments, don't shake hands or don't ask for permission/knock before starting work at her house.
Most Elderly (and everyone else for that matter), want someone who:

Turns up when they say they will.
Is honest.
Knows what they're doing or if not says so BEFORE they massacre they're prized shrubs. It's not incompetency to say you don't know how to treat a specific plant.
Charges a fair price (not necessarily cheap)
Is honest
Turns up when they say they will
Is honest
Turns up when they say they will
Has a clean sense of humour and is polite.

You do the above and you'll go down a storm!
A lot of good advice so far. Try a poster in any local drop-in center, goog companions club, bingo hall, etc.
Good luck.
p.s. Use a spell-checker. a lot of older people are picky about grammer and such like.
TRY KNOCKING THE DOOR, I FIND IF YOUNGSTERS HAVE GOT THE INITIATIVE TO GET OUT AND ASK RATHER THAN WAITING FOR ME TO ASK THEM THEY ARE WORTH GIVING A TRIAL. GOOD LUCK
