If i'm 16, and what to mow lawns and help people in their gardens over the summer, how much should i charge?
Question:Should i charge by the hour, a set amount, please give me your thought to what would be a reasonable rate, or if you already pay someone what do u pay? thanks
Answers:
Ask for £5 per hour. Any more and they will just get a professional in. If you are using your own lawnmower, then dont forget to charge for the petrol. Good luck with it - maybe you could make a career out of it. Its a good healthy way to spend a summer.
First ask your clients what they think a fair price would be. Then if that does not fit your thinking negotiate. Today I would think that $10 an hour is a good rate.
But, if you are suppling the equipment and gas then start higher.
i think you should charge a set rate. if the yard is a little bigger then charge more. if the yard is a little smaller or an old woman with not much money charge a little less. i think going rate is around 20.00 where i live and that is just to mow.
i think you should charge by the half hour.since yards are different sizes and require different tasks. I would probably pay a kid your age $3-$5 per half hour, depending on what you were doing.
if you did a great job, or worked hard. i might throw in lunch, refreshements or a tip.
Don't know what country you are in.
So, look at the local classified ads and get an idea of the going rate.
As you may be seen to be 'inexperienced' you will not get as much.
However, turn up when you say you will.
Do the job the customer requires.
And be firm about payment after the job is complete.
That way you may begin to build up a client base and may be able to increase your rate.
Don't forget to go back to school!!
ok raggy. advertise everywhere. young families often need help too . people that live away need the garden tidied and kept under control. so dont just think old people. in uk think £10 an hour to make a small profit.try to learn about bushes etc. when to cut back or not. good luck. there is money to be made in gardening.
Professional lawn mowers in Texas charge $20-$25 per average sized lawn, incl. the mowing, edging, and the cleaning up. Weeding the garden and planting flowers is extra. If you're starting out as an unknown, you'll have to charge less.
It depends on how large the yard or garden are. If it's small and will take less than an hour to do 10 dollars would be fair. If it's very large and will take you most of the day then charge by the hour.
i tried at 16 n found charging different which is maybe wrong but most people you work for will be o.a.p who will always pay you what your due £5-£6 an hour plus expenses for travel/petrol for mower/weed killer ect an younger people £7-£10 an hour more sweat more money (digging/uprooting bushes trees/fencing/remember cleaning sets the standard of your job a the best make money while getting plenty excercise n fresh air
$6.00 per hour is a good start, as you get faster and do higher quality work, charge more, up to maybe $12 per hour.
£6 per hour at 16 years old that should be OK for part time work remember the more you charge the less work you will get, you could also consider a smaller charge for elderly people, if you provide your own lawn mower this would help, but presents a transport problem if the gardens are far apart, and lets face it, mowing lawns is not too difficult or strenuous. And some people won't have a lawn mower. If you do a good job, word gets around, but don't be too greedy in you price
Starting from home. you need to get there like a Call Out charge. Then, if using your own mower, you must cost depreciation /servicing to the job. Start by thinking a mower will last a season.
Insurance is another question...
Say, £15 +£5 for every hour after the first hour. Then, extra for the edges.
£6 per hour, you will need a risk assesment and method statement, public liability insurance and all PPE.
I live in the north in the UK my mower man comes every fortnight and i pay £10 he just mows and strims its done in a few Min's .its worth it to me as i am elderly and it always looks nice as he cleans away the grass cuttings but he has a van to take away the grass .We have brown wheelie bins for garden waste so you could always use them and they would have to have their own mower as i don't own one that's why i have someone who has his own.
