Lawn Mowing?
Question:Any tips on how to be a successful neighborhood lawnmower. Im going to be a freshman. Tips other than, like, mow in a straight line. And also how to get the attention of people in my neighborhood.

This may sound silly but if one looks around today with all the industrial parks and the American life stile you are going to find many people still have a need for this service. Back when I was young not very many people were earning four dollars an hour , But I did! I would push that mower so fast I'm not sure if superman could have keep pace with me. It was easy to start because dad did have a mower and gas was cheap then. I did not have to be a rocket scientist. I just wanted to earn a few dollars . I got started by knocking on doors. This got me a few jobs . I made some fliers and placed them into the newspapers I delivered . That along with word of mouth soon found me mowing about 9 lawns a week.
The key here was getting the word out.
Not needing much to get the job done.
The willingness to work.
start with your own lawn, see if your parents will toss a few bucks at you
next have them talk to family/friends in your town and see if you can do their lawns, its a good start b/c everybody has a mower that you can use and you get tips b/c they know you
if your/your family friends neighbors see you working, they then become interested b/c their getting screwed paying $300 a month for some company
once you have customers for lawns, they'll prob start havin you do projects such as mulching, cleaning their pool, babysitting etc
then when summer is over they'll call you to rake their leaves, shovel their driveways (if u live in the north), and do spring cleanups
happy mowing
make flyers and hand them out to all your neighbors include weed eating and edging in the job make sure you clean all debri after mowing be a good person pick up trash etc.once you a get a really nice house to do you will have all kind of referrals after that.
dude, just mow ur lawn and then if u know ur neighbors well, offer to mow it for them.
#1 before attracting attention - make sure your lawn is impeccable.
As for other attention getter's you have a few options - door to door, mailing, a flyer on the door or in a baggie in the driveway with a few rocks for weight.
Call a professional lawn service or two and get a quote so you can easily undercut them. (no pun intended)
It really depends where you live and what you plan to offer. You need to be dependable. You should offer weed eating, edging (which can easily be done with a weed-eater on its edge). Do you want to pull weeds, trim hedges or anything else? Definitely decide on what you plan to offer and stick to it.
i mow the lawn and i am going to be a freshman too!what a coinq-i-dek! go to the neighbors house and tell them who u r. ask maybe if u can mow there lawn for the expeirence and if they like u they will ask u again. and then u can charge them!
place signs in your neighborhood
Keep your mower blades sharpened also get to know types of grasses out there and know the proper height of cut. The lawns you mow will a hell of alot better if you actually know what your doing. This will make the lawns you mow look ALOT better, especially if the lawns you mow are taken care of, meaning fertilized and maintained. You dont need to scalp every lawn you mow. It will look terrible and it will make you look bad as well. Trust me keep your blades sharp it prevent alot of headaches.
I agree in doing your own first; invite people to see your lawn as a model. One of my neighbors works part time as a gardener and he says to change direction when you cut the lawn. Example: one day, cut up and down, the time you mow, cut left right, and the following time if you can (depending one the are of the lawn and design) cut diagonally. If you really want to impress your customers once you're a pro at mowing, get a roller for the mower so you'll get the line affect like you see at baseball fields.
For the summer months, I like to keep my lawn taller than normal, second to the last highest setting on my mower to help keep moisture in the lawn.
This might sound kind of extreme if you just want to mow a yard.
Well, you know how to use a lawn mower. But, if you are trying to get jobs with the locals, make sure your yard is the best looking one in the block. This will be your "resume". They will look at yours as the example you can provide. When they see your yard, they will trust you with theirs! If they have friends in tne area, they will tell them about you.
People would also be impressed with weed eater service as part of the deal. And offer to clean up any excess clippings . This will leave their yard not only freshly cut, but clean. Shorter grass is the main goal but remember removal of the clippings allows them to actually see what an excellent job you've done.
Pay close attention to detail. Convince them that you are concerned about their yard only. Don't make them think this is just another yard.
If you want to go this far, then don't tell them you want to mow their yard. Tell them you want give them a "detailed look".
Things you need to have on hand: *Mower,of course, lawn and leaf rake, electric or gas blower(to clear off the "mess" on their porches). Also, an electric or gas weed eater(recommend electric, much cheaper). If you really wanted to make some good money, get yourself an electric hedge trimmer.
*you might think about getting a self-propelled mower w/bagger. No pushing of the mower, and no raking up grass, but it's a little more expensive.
I know this sounds like a lot of work, but you can make some GOOD money. You can just mow and make a few bucks. Any body can mow their own yard, give them a good reason to pay you, rather than do it their self.
Also, to keep them as a return customer, simply say " Thank you very much, and I can be back in say two weeks? Or would another time be better?" If they are impressed they would be happy to have you back. They will not only trust you with their lawn, but they will respect you.
