White Scale on Christmas Bushes?
Question:I have a front garden of Hedges/Topiary "Christmas Bushes" which are infested with White Scale. I have sprayed several times with PestOil but nothing seems to kill them. Each time I spray it takes me about 2.5 hours due to the qty of them. Any ideas.

Pine needle scale?
Infested branches can be pruned.
Foliar applications of acephate, carbaryl (Sevin) and pyrethroids can be used when populations are high. Follow label directions for application timing.
Dormant season oil can be used for armored scales that winter as eggs under the female covers.
Root drenches with imidacloprid (Merit, Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub Care) can be affective on soft scale.
Summer oil can be used to smother exposed eggs, crawlers and immature females.
Insect growth hormones such as pyripoxifen can be used on scale crawlers.
Its always best to monitor scale and control during the crawler stage. It's very difficult to control once they have set their armor/waxy coverings.
