Why arn't my morning glories coming up?
Question:I planted them just at the right time a week and a half ago, and i even soaked them in warm water before i planted them. But there still not coming up. I planted them in 3 different places and there are about 10 coming up in one of them. It frosted about 5 times and it didn't stop them from coming up in that one flower bed. So why aren't they coming up in the others? are they dead? Or did i just plant them just to deep.
Answers:
If the soil is too cool they will end up rotting instead of germinating. I always nick the seeds with a knife to penetrate the shell of the seed then soak for at least 24 hours before planting.
Some times seeds are old and won't come up, other times the seeds are really tough and you have to soak them longer or file them a little bit to encourage them to grow. You may want to take a look too and make sure some little varmint didn't eat them.
Morning glory seed don't need scarification or soaking. Mine readily seed themselves and continually sprout throughout the season. I would tend to believe that the frost did something. Are the ones coming up close to a structure/cement/rocks?? I would tend to believe you have a microclimate where the activly growing sprouts are. I would just plant some more :) (by the way, I do have a degree in horticulture so I know a little bit about plants, so whoever gave me the bad answer obviously does not know what they are talking about)
