Is there an inexpensive way to imitatae sunlight in the home?

Question:other than buying those lamps...i dont know maybe some kind of gardener's secret or tip on how to get regular bulbs to help plants grow...im growing lavender. planting the seeds tomorrow.

Answers:
just set in the window sill and keep the seeds wet to germanate. the heat from the sun in the window will act like a greenhouse. Direct light from a window is enough for what you need. South or East side will do.

yes, get an energy saver light bulb called 'Aladdin'. They make a natural light. aprox $9 a globe.
I have found, in growing plants in my basement, for my garden, that the new coiled flourscents are excellent. The plants grown normally and do not grow up fast and thin-stalked as with normal light bulbs. Also "Grow Light" bulbs work, but are more expensive.
I successfully grew tomatoes and cucumbers in my basement in upstate NY in the middle of the winter using 4 standard shop lites, and 8 full spectrum light tubes. Sylvania makes a light called natural sunshine. Get those and any plant will grow under this. Just keep them close to the plants and turn the lights off for 6-8 hours a night to simulate night.
