Impatiens??
Question:I just bought impatien plants and the first few days they seem to enjoy been outdoors in the sun. I water them everyday along with my other plants. The others seem to adjust just fine. But for some reason the impatiens is wilting. What should I do?
P.S they are located in a sunny area. Should I put some shade.
Answers:
impatients are mostly shade lovers, they can tolerate early morning or late evening sun. Move them to a well drained location, keep moist roots, and feed regularly. They will love you for it.
Impatiens like mostly shade but can tolerate morning sun. It sounds to me that they are just too hot and if you water them on their flowers in the sun it will damage the flowers.
impatiens can not tolerate the hot afternoon sun. they will do much better in shade or morning sun
I'm afraid you're giving them too much sun. Regular impatiens are shade plants, so move them as soon as you can to a shady spot. There are some impatiens that have been bred to be in the sun. They look slightly different than the shade ones, but are pretty. I love impatiens. They look so lovely when they start filling in. And by the mid summer they are so colorful! Good luck with your garden.
shade
Impatiens are for shade. However what I want to address is everyday watering. It is simply not the best way to grow anything. You may have been doing this for years, which will make you non-receptive to what I'm saying, but I implore you to stop daily watering.
Look at it this way:
Do you drink a glass of water every two hours just because that's what the clock says?
No.
When do you drink water?
When you're thirsty.
Plants are the same way. They don't want watered every day. You may not be drowning them, but there's a better way to water. You want your plants to dry out well between waterings and then thoroughly soak them. Even in the driest of climates, most of your plants (especially annuals) will not need water constantly.
Try this and you WILL see a difference. You will have fuller plants with more blooms instead of stretched plants that bloom sparsely.
Sorry, this is a rant that I have with most gardeners. Even if you have had good results up til now, stressing the plants a little will open up a whole new world of botanical enjoyment for you.
