a white pine tree
Rose of sharon is a good one to plant. Space them about a foot apart. They may take a few years to completely fill out the area, but they make a very good privacy hedge that flowers with pink or purple blossoms. Also new seedlings will grow up between them to help thicken your hedge.

There are other bushes to plant, but this one is my favorite. My father and sister both planted these at their own homes and they are an almost impenitrable hedge now.
