Regrowing grass?
Question:My backyard lawn has pretty much died over summer and I was wondering what steps and what materials would be best for regrowing it because its nothing more then a layer of dead grass.
any help would be appreciated.

Why wait for it to come back in the fall. You can simulate fall conditions by just watering the heck out of it right now. The turf has gone into dormancy due to lack of water ( I assume). If you want to get the grass green and growing again, water it good everyday for at least a week and a half. And not just a little bit. Water it thoroughly. The lawn turning brown is its way of trying to conserve energy by not growing due to lack of moisture. As soon as it gets a few good drinks, it will come out of this state. And please, "Do not" fertilize the lawn at this time. By fertilizing while it is dormant, and "forcing" it to grow when it is trying to shut down, will only add to the drought stress problem. It doesn't need fertilizer now, just a few good waterings. Water in the early am hrs. if at all possible. (5 to 8 am) This is the best and safest time of day. "Do not" water in the early evening or at night. You will be exposing your lawn to the possibility of a turf disease or fungus... Hope this answers your question.

depending on the grass type it could be dormant and will come back as the weather cools in the fall. Besides unless you are in the south the best time to reseed is in the fall
Spread some fertilizer over the entire yard, either water it in or spread it right before a rain shower. Get a fertilizer that contains iron in it also.
