White Dust on Climbing Roses?

Question:I have some small climbing roses in front on my home that seem to be gather a white type of dust making them wilt. It doesnt seems to be affecting any hybrid teas located next to them. This rose is pink with many very small blooms, and my neighbor says it has been there for years and may be an heirloom rose not really sure. Anyone know what this may be?

Answers:
That is not dust, that is a bug. Make a tea out of chewing tobacco (a twist is best) and filter it and spray it on there with a little dishwashing liquid, and that will do the trick.

Good chance it's a fungus. If you have access to a low power microscope (like a stereo scope), I suggest that you look at it with that.

You can worry about it or not. Apparently, it hasn't really hurt the roses, but they may do better without it. A local nursery may be able to help (but please don't take a sample to show them unless it is sealed in a plastic bag).
it's mildew! go here and check out the new stuff for roses by bayeradvanced! rose and flower all in one concentrate.. i love it! i wouldn't have any roses without this stuff! worth a look.u cam spray the roses now for immediate control with any fungucide spray... any brand will do! good luck!
