Problem with butternut squash?

Question:I have a butternut squash plant that has sent out two runners. One of the runners is doing very well, but the other runner looks like it's dying. Both runners have squash on them and the good one is still flowering? Can someone tell me what is wrong and what should I do. This is the first time I have grown butternut squash.

Answers:
Look to see if you have some small greyish bugs that are sort of shield shaped. http://insects.tamu.edu/fieldguide/aimg6...

They can kill a squash plant in a hurry. If you have them, spray the plant with 1 Tablespoon of Murphy's Oil Soap in a gallon of water to get rid of them. Otherwise look for signs that the one runner has been stepped on - dogs, deer and other critters aren't very careful where they put their feet.
