I have a 8x10 deck on the back of my house. It holds alot of water under it causing mosquitos.any solution
Question:My drain field is above it so the water drains towards the house. I have put extra dirt under there and it doesn't seem to work, just wash away. Can I use something different or dig trenches? The mosquitos are horrible and I think its from all the excess water holding under the porch.

you will need some type of drain to wick the water away. serch the web for french drain.in the mean time just a few drops of oil will will float on top of the water and kill the mosquitos until you can put in a drain.
You need to slope your yard away from your house. Also check out your gutters--are they clean? Make sure gutters drain away from your house--if necessary put extensions on them. Mosquitos aren't the only problem you will have from the water--your foundation may CRACK and then you will really have a big, expensive mess. there are some grandules availible at the garden center . . my sister had the same problem with her deck and she swept the grandules throught the boards on her deck and the mosquitoes aren't carrying us away anymore. . . although she still has some mosquitoes . .
I know I won't explain this perfectly, and I don't know the name, but you local home improvement store will. They are PVC tubes with holes drilled in them. You bury them with the holes on top to catch the water, and drain it away from your house and deck area. Good Luck.
you will probably think I am nuts but Dawn Dish Washing Liquid keeps mosquito larva away and the adults--Used to throw full open bottles in the swamp behind the house in NC and also kept a few drops in my rain catchers--doesn't hurt animals but puts the run on skeeters.
