General ques. pertaining to corn? How tall does it normally get?

Question:[yellow corn]
what about indian corn--realize there's several varieties, just planted the most common type. about how high does this grow up to?
think it looks nice during autumn, + provides a lot of privacy being so close to neighbors [hopefully ..]

Answers:
Yes, it does depend on the variety you plant. If you've driven out into the country and saw acres of corn, it was probably 'feed corn' . That variety can grow to about 9 to 10 feet or so, and is used primarily to feed livestock. Another use for 'cheap corn' or 'field corn' is to heat homes using a 'corn-burning stove' (it's dried first).
The corn you would probably plant in your own garden is 'sweet corn', and gets to about 6 or 7 feet tall. In many climates, there are more than one planting season for corn. If you planted your 'crop' just after the last frost, you may have a harvest by the end of July. I wouldn't count on it for a privacy hedge, though. Depending on your climate, bamboo may be a better, faster growing privacy hedge.
P.S. Your corn is ready to pick when the 'silk' turns brown, that means it has been pollinated and ripened.

usually get up to about 7ft.-8ft. tall in my area of the mid west
There is an old sayings . . . Corn is "knee high by the 4th of July" and it's ready when it "as high as an elephants eye". Granted, that is if the corn is taken care of well. I would say some sweet corn and indian corn will be anywhere between 5-8 feet tall.
You could expect upwards of 6' corn is a nitrogen depleting crop so add some bloodmeal, compost, a fish, bonemeal, or other nitrogen source.
