IYO, is "having a green thumb" merely a MYTH?? Or is it rather merely exp.+ good upkeep on plants?

Question:I'll be honest, my gardens always come out pretty great.
However it seems to me it's just common sense, lol--planting, upkeeping w/watering, ect.
Do you have any comparisons contrary?
Or any wonderful stories w/phenomenal gardening that's particuliar unusual please?
thank you! just VERY curious :o)

Answers:
I have been told by neighbors that I have a green thumb, but honestly, I just plant where I feel it will do best.

I have a lady behind me that is just learning and poor thing, she goes out daily and waters her little flowers around her tree.

She watered her roses to much that they got black spot disease and I gave her some stuff to kill it. Basically, she is a worrier and I think that is the worst thing you can do to a plant.

I don't have phenomenal stories but I sure am proud of my two buddleia plants. They are blooming like crazy. One is yellow and the other purple. Not next to each other. Also, my mexican heather that is supposed to be an annual where I live, came back and is growing great.

So, green thumb is just common sense to me as you stated. Also, people are sometimes afraid of the plant and either over water or under water or don't fertilize or feed.

Thanks, good question.

I think it can be as easy or difficult as you want to make it. If you want to go real in depth ex. finding the insects that damage a certain crop, planting out of the hardiness zone, the interactions of micro-nutrients on different plant types. Or very simple what makes plants grow and how do I provide that for them. I have a hard time with container gardening. Horseradish I planted in the ground I can't get rid of, in a container I for the life of me cannot get it to grow.
one of my neighbors plants a garden every year at the same time that I do. we're right next door to each other. He hoes, fertilizes, weeds, waters and takes great care of his plants. I plant them, water them when it's really dry and pull out the bigger weeds.that's about it. He gets testy because I always have the first, last and biggest tomatoes. Oh, and I do talk to them. I tell them 'boys, you're on your own, now let's get growing'.
Since I have been every young -7-8 yrs old- I have been gardening to some degree. Most of my attempts have been very successful. I am considered to have a "green thumb" by friends and family.
BUT there are some items I can not grow.
I cannot grow Cukes successfully. But I the most enviable have tomotoes i, hot peppers overflowing the plants, and flowers to die for.
It is a "gift". I value my gift and try use it for my and my families and friends enjoyment.
