Has anyone heard of alphfa killing algae?

Question:I was told that if you put alphfa in a pond it will kill algae, just wondering if it was true.

Answers:
It's not alfalfa, it's barley straw. Reports from several universities have shown mixed results from using barley straw as a control for algae.
