Where would you find info on flowers that bloom daily?
Question:My dad has these flowers in his front yard that bloom new flowers each day. They are purple flowers. They bloom in the morning and as soon as the sun starts to set they fall off and start growing the new ones for the next day. He has no clue what the name of the flower is just that it is really cool. Can anyone help me find this.

What you have noticed is diurnal flowering. Most plants that do this bloom with racemes opening in ranks for a day. They consist of hundreds of tiny individual blooms but in the mass those dying after one day are not as conspicuous as daylilies or Hemerocallis are.
Hemerocallis is the plant commonly known as the daylily since each large flower lasts only a single day. The name hemerocallis is derived from the greek meaning beauty for a day. For these plants an extended bloom period is 16 hours. Orange is common but many come in shades ranging from near black tones of purple to lightest lavender. They offer continuous bloom by having a cascade of buds ready to open after the last is done. The stem of blossoms is called a scape. The foliage is like long blades of grass growing from a fan shaped base.

Many plants use diurnal flowering to conserve their fragrance for times their pollinators are active. Four-O'Clocks do this very early when the light just begins to dim but they open again the next day. It is rare for a plant to trust it will be pollinated in just one day. Blossoms often are missed as not all flowers on a stem set seed.

My mom use to have flowers called "4 o'clocks". They bloomed like to said and when the flowers dies they turned to black seeds that she would save and replant the next year.
