Slow worms in compost heap.?
Question:How do you move slowworms from a compost heap to a new location.
The compost heap is a bit of a multi occupancy at the moment.
When is the best time of year to evict them & where is best palce to rehome them. Have had offers of vacant compost heaps elsewhere.
Thanks

Hi, you can pick up slow worms to move them around. I would say now is the best time to move them as they are cold blooded and would quickly warm up given a new compost heap to explore.
dont know but sorry if you all ready know this but slow-worms look just like baby adders, so please be care full, dont want you getting bitten now
In the UK slow worms are a protected species. If you move them you are breaking the law. They will not hurt you and eat small insects, that is why they like your compost heap. Why not start up a fresh heap and designate your present one as a wildlife sanctuary.
