Answers:
Yes, I've done. Sometimes with permission of the current owner of the porperty, other times without. If there aren't any NO TRESPASSING signs, I don't really worry. If there happen to be signs posted, I'll skip the place.
Good luck on your next finds.
LOL! Wow, you have brought back some memories. When I was in my late teens and my sister was in her early 20's we would find old abandoned homes out in the boonies and go searching through them for good loot. Or just for kicks we'd go through them late at night. My sister had just moved out on her own and I would spend the night with her. So we'd wait until about 2am and go to the location with our flashlights and see what cool and creepy things we could discover. We had some scares and we had some injuries but most of all we had fun!
No but I love things like that. I found a flat rock thats is about
a foot in diameter, smooth. That what you call having a
great day right.
It doesnt matter if it has been abandoned or not your still stealing!!
My husband found a bunch of old, white granite street pavers and we have used them to edge all of our garden beds.. they have a really nice worn patina. If we ever move, the pavers are coming with us!
The city bought and condemned an old farmhouse up the street from my rentals to clear the way for a road extension. I saw them starting to dismantle the house when I stopped by to ask whether I could remove some granite, stones and a piece of garden statuary. The foreman said, no problem but to check out the basement because there was still a lot of stuff down there. Creepy place, filled with spider web, mice and rats but I made a wonderful haul of old depression glass, a farmhouse bench and table, some old rusty tools and a pile of roofing slate.
I typically confine my looting to more affluent neighborhoods. This is an interesting idea though.
Scavenger Rights. I've done that most of my life. Old houses being torn down that were made of brick or had brick basements. Once its open it's free and clear. No one will mind since it's only going to be hauled off and dumped anyway. I've made 3 tier'd planters, encircled trees, edged flower beds for lawnmowers to ride on without hitting my plants, put in a patio for a neighbor, It's endless with what you can do with salvaged material.
Yes, done it many times. Even take a metal detector and find all kinds of treasures... find alot of junk too. But, it 's the thrill of the search that makes it so fun. You never know what you will find.
The homes are old and abandoned and as long as it's not posted with no tresspassing signs, the owners obviously don't care. If they didn't want anyone on the property, they would post it with signs to stay off. Most of those type of old places around my area are owned by city people that bought it for the land for hunting. They come up a few times a year to hunt and would most likely be glad if someone just tore the old place down for them.
If you concerned about the owner of the property, go to the courthouse in your county and request the name/address/phone of the owner and contact them. Or you can look in a platt book for that county to get the name of the owner.
If there are signs that say no tresspassing, stay away. They can prosecute and give you a hefty fine if the land is posted. It's not worth the risk of getting caught on their property.
Otherwise, have fun!!
when my children were younger, their friends parents were haning their garage torn down. the floor of the garage was all pavers.
over the next few days, the kids and I would load up the little red wagon with these pavers and bring them back to the house. we used them to make a sidewalk. this was before if was cool to use pavers as sidewalks and driveways
they make a nice wall for plants---or what I did for a windbreaker---build them into small pyramids around your garden area they are a very decorative wall barrier that prevents plants from the wind plus it is a good conversational piece at a party---
The way I see it, is if you don't take advantage of your find, someone else will.
That brings me back to my childhood.Thanx.
