How to landscape small backyard with big dog?
Question:Right now all I have is sand and weeds. Is there any thing I can do to make it look nicer?

Great question. With a Great Dane AND a 100lb Mutt I'm having the same problem. I'm going to put in a large patio with a wall border that will have plants and such in the middle part of it. The wall (3 feet tall or less) will be the border between a nice stone patio and the "dog's yard" of which I'm putting zoysia sod down as it is pretty tough. As far as dog damage from dog urine (dead spots of grass), use tomato juice on top of the dog food every feeding. Good luck.
I would recommend a rock garden or a decorative fence going around your flowers. A trellis is also somewhat dog proof.
Possibly raised terracing. That will, hopefully, keep the dog from peeing or digging in it. Also will give nice visual interest. Then you can also add good soil so things will grow. After that, just pick out plants that work for you. Container plantings may do just as well.
Good question. I can't even landscape a large yard with my dogs. My only solution was to create a new fenced area just for them. Before that I protected everything with decorateive fencing and even then it barely worked. Dogs will pee on, pull up, or dig out anything planted. Good luck.
