Landscape ideas for mossy yard?

Question:I have a section of my backyard that is mostly dirt doesn't get any sun and tends to get mossy. Should I reseed to get grass growing back there? Or should I consider laying down small stones or red lava rock back there? Drainage isn't good in that area but I'm not looking to do any major drainage work, just something quick that will get the moss out and put something down that looks good. Thanks for your suggestions. I do like red lava rock and white small stones.

Answers:
try ferns, hostas, astilbe, and let the moss grow in and around it. All the above like shade and moist conditions. I always recommend working with the conditions you have rather than trying to spend a small fortune changing things.
grass will never do well in acid soil and all shade. Hope this helps.

I would use the small white stones. This will keep the moss down. Lava rock can be broken down by the moss in a few years.
You could reseed with a shady mix, go with your rock, or you could put in a shade or bog garden. Moisture loving plants would probably thrive there.
You could plant tall grasses and Hostas they look wonderful planted in a shady area surrounded by rocks. And if you can add a water feature in the background!
