Can I plant grass on shail? If so how long would it take to grow (roughly)? Thanks!?

Question:

Answers:
Sorry, but you can't. Grass needs 3-4" of soil for it's root system plus there has to be enough soil there to hold plenty of water for the grass. So even if you add 2-4" of soil, you would have to water it all of the time because it would dry out so easily.

The only way you can grow grass on shale is to put down about a foot of good topsoil on the shale before trying.
