O.K. I am moving into a new home. I am looking to do the landscaping. I have a plant in mind.?

Question:It is a Purple reed like plant that is familiar to California. It's leaf are similiar to an iris plant leaf but purple. I am at a lost as for the name or pic. Any helps would be great! Thanks

Gladiola foliage is purple down near the base, and absolutley looks like iris leaves. I lost a bet on the matter at bloom time they look so much alike. I couldn't find a picture with good purple showing but here is a good pic of the foliage
