Actually you should try to go to a local garden center that sells plants for your paticular area like a Mom and Pop. They can give you more of an idea for your exact area. I went to the bigger outlets like Lowes and Home Depot and they sold me on trees and perennials that died in our -10 Wyoming winter. Then I tried Wal-Mart the grape vines and clematis survived but the Red Bud tree and roses didnt. So I went the next spring to a local greenhouse and found out Red Buds are warm weather state trees ( 30 degrees and above in winter) and not all roses are meant for all states. Since then I have had much better luck because I know where they live if the plants dont surviveLOL. So good luck and have fun my house work goes on hiatus april to september there is something really satisfying to look at what you can grow outside in a large or small area

It is very interesting and it is sad that not much people out there have the interest to further this line. You can easily learn the basics , ideas and design online too.
