Seriouis Alge Problem In Pond?
Question:At our house we have 250ftx150ft pond that is 20ft deep in most areas but goes down to 40ft deep in the middle. We treat and treat our pnd with chemicals to remove the alge howeve rit always comes back.
Now that I know of there are no fish in the mond, however there are two otters and a ton of frogs, and there are tirtles. What can I do to remove this alge problem. We plan on putting fish in the fall.
Answers:
Grass carp will not take care of alge!! They will only take care of vegetation growing in the pond! If your pond is near a crop field or livestock and you have runoff from them...you will have to learn to live with the algae...or scrap it off yourself if you don't want to use chemicals...which will kill the critters living in your pond. Sorry...this is not the answer I wanted either!!
You need to get some grass carp. You will never have another algae problem as long as you have enough of them. I wouldn't recommend any chemical treatment if you are going to be introducing fish. I have also heard this is pretty good check it out:
