Why are there holes in my lawn?
Question:These holes are round, approximately 2 inches in diameter and appear quite deep (i can't see the bottom of them). I don't know for certain how long they've been there, but they don't appear anywhere but my lawn. Any ideas?
Answers:
Yes, there's a few different animals that make these holes. We have a population of thirteen-lined ground squirrels. Try to catch a glimpse of one of them so you know what you're up against. What my husband does is takes a bucket full of water, and dumps it down one of the holes really fast. Usually the offender will come running out the same hole you dumped the water in. If you don't have the heart to kill it (as in, standing there with a shovel or something,) at least you will get a look at what it is, and then you can compare it to pictures on the internet and see what else you can do about them.

Moles or voles. I have them too. They make tunnels in the ground.
