What is wrong with my Lupine plant?

Question:I planted a lupine in a large pot, in sun/part shade and it looks sick..blackened areas , dying new leaves.

Answers:
Lupines needs moist, well drained soil. They will tolerate some dryness once established, but have lush foliage with adequate water. Do you have good drainage? Do your pots have drain holes? They are difficult to transplant because they have a long tap root. They do not make good container plants due to their tap root. They thrive in cool climates. They do not like it extremely hot. Mulch to help keep their roots cool. The container material and its color will affect the root zone temperatures. Use light colored pots or paint them a light color. Keep the pot out of direct sunlight. Place your pot into a second larger pot & stuff mulch between the pots to help keep the roots cool. Lupines tend to attract aphids. Have you looked for signs of aphids/bugs? Soils can be infected with diseases. Did you use a good, sterile potting soil or just some ground from the garden? Hope this helps!
